My Day in Court

The halls of justice have no secrets. The acoustics will not allow. Even the slightest conversation gets amplified. The complaints of the indignant are plain for all to hear. In here there is no responsibility, no guilt, all are victims of circumstance--or some shady vendetta.
"He didn't even live there when they said that happened..."
"That puny little four banger couldn't possibly do that..."
"I wasn't even there at the time..."
"That cop has got it out for me..."
"So because I have two priors you can't help me out with that..."
And so it goes.

I was there today to bear witness, and after two hours of painful inaction the defendant settled with the ADA--the case was filed. My services were not needed. If I did not have to make the two hour drive for other reasons I would have been miffed.
